Song for Fred Thomas is a micro-epic—a song that managed to push every one of my buttons in less than two minutes of running time. The track is pure unbridled energy that you just can’t help but like, and that I couldn’t help but include on the album.

Lyrics:

And has it really been a year? I thought you'd make it out of here,
far from these dollar debutantes. I guess it's guessing that you want
so add a line to this guesslist and, with that trademark attitude,
bottle the life that you exude and cork it up for ships to miss, left
floating in this sea of Kiss and vinegar and babyteeth. You'll melt
like sand to form the glass I'll drink from saying, "This will pass,"
and with a Kurt-thin curtain call, I'll throw you hard against the
wall, watch you explode into a whole of hollow, graphic harmless
shards that don't capture this at all. Left fleecing hapless
argonauts when what you're not is all you've got. Caught underwheel
and bloodied-down, I guess it's just that kind of town. So now we're
back to guessing games? You name the place, I'll place the names in
this top hat and draw the blame for every poor reviewer's ire and wait
for you in Wiltsonshire ("-sure" but you knew just where I meant).
We'll fuse like sand to form the glass they'll look through saying,
"This will pass," and like a Big Hurt curtain call we'll go
hand-wringing through the Fall, read History's weak sequel's script
and wish the Zeitgeist gave a Shit.
